"I am your strength and shield. I plan out each day and have it ready for you, long before you arise from bed... concentrate on staying in touch with Me. Refuse to waste energy by worrying... My Presence watches over you continually, protecting you from both known and unknown dangers...which is the best security system available." (32)
We have constructed our own methods of security. Alarm systems, hidden cameras, video surveillance, retirement plans, savings accounts, disaster supplies, emergency funds, gated communities, padlocks, dead bolts, police patrol or even the family dog! All of that, just to relieve our concerns for safety. We live in a world that threatens our safety and our peace of mind.
What a comfort to know that as God's children we can have an additional peace of mind believing that "the Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my mountain where I seek refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold...and I was saved from my enemies." (Ps. 18:2-3)
Breathing a bit more easy...dmc

I love having the security and peace of our Savior! After reading this, one of my favorite Aaron Jeoffrey songs kept running through my head.

I go to the Rock, I go to the Rock
I go to the Rock, I go to the Rock
I know, I know He's able
Where do I go
When there's no body else to turn to
Who do I talk to
When no one wants to listen
Who do I lean on
When there's no foundation stable
I go to the Rock I know He's able
I go to the Rock
CHORUS
I go to the Rock of my Salvation
I go to the Stone that the builders rejected
I run to the mountain and the mountain stands by me
When the earth all around me is sinking sand
On Christ, the solid rock I stand
When I need a shelter, When I need a friend,
I go to the Rock
Where do I hide
When the storms of life are threatening
Where do I run to
When the winds of sorrow blow
Is there a refuge (a refuge) in the time of tribulation
Cause I go to the Rock
I know (I know) He's able.
CHORUS
When the earth all around is a-sinking sand
On Christ, the solid rock I stand
When I need a shelter, When I need a friend,
When the earth all around is sinking sand
On Christ the solid rock I stand
When I need a shelter, When I need a friend
I go to the Rock
I go to the.. I go to the Rock
I go to the Rock. I go to the Rock
I go to the Rock
Thanks for sharing the song, Melissa!
ReplyDeleteIt brings back memories for me, too. A great Truth to remember!
I love that song too! I love the one that says "On Christ the solid rock I stand all other ground is sinking sand all other ground is sinking sand." It is an oldie but a goodie.
ReplyDeleteThe other picture that keeps coming to mind is a living shield- kind of like the one in Star Trek that flows over you and surrounds you as you travel.
I have had that in mind all day. Nothing gets to me that doesn't go through Him first.
Thank you so much for sharing this and the visual of the shield in Christ .
ReplyDeleteHi Dawn,
ReplyDeleteFirst I want to thank you for sharing. I really love your perspective.
I am new to this blog, just joined a week ago, and my page is still showing January 31. Are you continuing to blog??
Thank You For Posting. I do a devotional and prayer call with my family and friends 3 days week. I read from Jesus Calling & wanted them to be able to follow along or go back & read what I read to them that day. So this helps until I'm able to buy each of them their own copy. God Bless
