"I have planted longing for perfection in every human heart. This is a good desire, which I alone can fulfill." (164)
As long as I can remember I have battled a sense of deep disappointment over things I do that fall short of "perfect." My tendency to self-scrutinize can steal away joy and momentum. So, I need to take my eyes off myself and intentionally refocus on Jesus, and as I do, I sense His reassuring love!
Sometimes, I wonder if I am just homesick for my ancient roots, the Garden of Eden, where life was as perfect as life can get... at least here on earth!

That is the line that stood out to me today, as well! It's interesting to consider that God has planted a desire for perfection inside of us. As we seek Him and surrender ourselves, He fulfills that natural desire! I also tend to try to be perfect and have often felt defeated when things don't go that way. I have a new appreciation for the idea of perfectionism being a gift from God instead of a curse of the type A personality! As long as we keep the focus on Him, who He is, and what He can do in us and through us!
ReplyDeleteWow, Courtney, that's a good word for all of us! Thanks!
