Best Friend
There are some people who live so close to Jesus that it seems like He is one of their best friends. Spending time with them is almost like having an appointment with Jesus, Himself...having His undivided, discerning attention. They are such channels of godly insight and genuine inspiration that they motivate others to tune their hearts to Jesus, too. That kind of a friend or listener has an ear next to Jesus' heart.
I've discovered that those who are best friends with Jesus, tend to make the best of friends!

The Quiet Classroom
When I was a teen, flitting from one activity to another, mom would often encourage me to "be still" and get alone for some quiet time. It was such a healthy discipline. It's in quietness I find my strength even today. Thanks, mom, for introducing me to the powerful, peaceful discipline of just being in His Presence and learning to hear His voice!

Good Works Work!
The verse in today's devo is one of my favorites. Ephesians 2:10, "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
To think that I was crafted by God (His workmanship), created in Christ Jesus (through salvation's work to make me a supernaturally "new creation in Christ") to do "good works" for God, that He has already made preparation for me to accomplish, for His Glory!
That totally changes the way I go into my day...everyday I'm on an adventure looking for ways to accomplish "good" for God's Glory!
It's not like I have to dream up something "good" to do, because God has already made all the arrangements. I just need to stay tuned in to Him and allow His "good works" to flow through me. What a wonderful way to live..and it really works! How do I know? Because of others who have been a demonstration of His "good works," having touched my life with so much "good!" Yes, I KNOW...it works!

Christ's Opinion Counts
As far back as I can remember I have been quite concerned with everyone being friends, or at least being friendly, with each other. Some of my earliest grade school memories involve sharing with someone who had been wronged, sitting with someone who was all alone, inviting someone to my house who was new and scared, giving up my place in the lunch line so someone could be near one of their friends, helping someone who was hurt or handicapped, giving gifts for no reason, other than to see them smile. I loved doing things just to surprise and please someone else.
Well, this may sound quite impressive, however, it has it's down side, too. When there was no way I could change or "fix" the situation, I could fixate on that dilemma until it totally absorbed my mind. As a child, it would be hard for me to focus on school work if I knew some little girl in my class was upset over something, even if I had nothing to do with it! So, I would come up with an idea that I hoped would fix the situation, helping her to feel OK about life!
This meant I could only focus on my own needs after all kinds of others' needs and expectations were met. So, imagine what happened when I married a pastor and there was a whole congregation of unmet needs, expectations and concerns that took priority! There was no way I could satisfy that many opinions! The problem exponentially grew when we had the boys and I felt torn needing to be vigilant over their needs and their various life challenges, too!
I soon learned this tendency to focus on others' expectations and concerns could absolutely drain energy from me...UNLESS...I had first focused on Jesus! Meeting with Him every day became my lifeline! It helped me to clear the clutter of issues that distracted and distressed me. His opinion of me and expectations are far more gracious and balanced. Even today, in the midst of daily demands, I work hard to stay primarily focused on Him!
I also find great strength in Joe. His personality, tendencies and spiritual gifts counterbalance mine and he helps me to realign my perspective and readjust my schedule to stay focused on Jesus and not on all the hurtful things people may say and do, not only to us, but to others.
As a refocusing reminder, I keep this sign above my desk at home...

Spiritual Neurobics
"One of the practical benefits of living close to Me...I will show you which direction to go... I, the Creator of the universe...will not leave you circling in deeply rutted paths. Instead, I will lead you along fresh trails of adventure, revealing to you things you did not know. Stay in communication with me; follow My guiding Presence." (314)
Perhaps this is one of the more challenging, yet inspiring aspects of the "road less traveled" (from yesterday's blog.) The familiar, routine, well-worn roads that most journey will often cause us to "sleepwalk through (our) days." However, as followers of Christ, we will find ourselves moving out of our comfort zones into Divinely appointed adventures that challenge and inspire us to be more than we would have ever dreamed.
I have been inspired by those who follow hard and close to Christ. Amazing opportunities seem to flourish in their lives. When I've moved outside my own sphere of the familiar and have been stretched beyond my realm of comfort, it has been a mixture of rewarding, inspiring and even a bit scary, at times.
Recently Manning Rubin and Lawrence Katz invented a new term, "neurobics," referring to brain exercises that can enhance brain fitness by stimulating the chemicals produced when we engage in a non-routine action/thought. When we move outside our comfort zone, we stimulate the growth of neurons and dendrites that can make for a healthier environment in our brains.
I believe that "one of the practical benefits to living close" to Jesus is the opportunity to experience some "neurobics." Jesus seems to stir up the brain cells and change the environment of our minds helping us to develop a mind like His. (Philippians 2:5)

On the Road Less Traveled
Yesterday's blog about being grafted in the Vine (Jesus) and having our thought processes also grafted into the Vine can powerfully change us. Most who have chosen this kind of thought-life have discovered the "road less traveled."
Having my thoughts flow through the Vine certainly changes how I understand things! Christ's perspective alters my human perspective and over the years I have been modified to be a much more thoughtful person, I think. Overall, traveling the "road less traveled" is quite freeing and filled with God-appointed encounters that have enriched and strengthened my life in countless ways.
The "road less traveled" is certainly an adventure...

Brain Chatter
I've come to a place where I'm basically in an on-going conversation with Jesus about whatever, whomever, wherever, whenever. Why? Because it truly changes everything! Once I know that He has been invited into that particular network of thoughts, I sense an internal release and a flow of Life-giving energy. After learning more about how our brains work....it makes total sense.
Thoughts are like a neuro-network of bushes with many branches that produce either positive or negative chemicals that bath our brain cells. The area of our brains that tends to be more God-aware, located near the executive, decision-making region of the brain, can take every thought and transform it to be more constructive. God's Truth can "take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ." ( 2 Cor. 10:5)
I picture every branchy-bush network of thoughts being grafted into The Vine (Christ) when I channel that network of thoughts into the God-aware region of my brain. John 15:4-8 says it like this, "No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing... This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples."
Disciples chat often with the Master. What a great way to develop the mind of a disciple... keeping all the brain's neuro-networks attached to the life-giving Vine that produces positive life-giving Fruit!

Godly REST
Years ago, during my first year in college, I discovered the unique microcosm of life that exists in a dormitory hallway after 10:00 pm. My roommate and I discovered that we could spend hours socializing, trivializing, philosophizing, conceptualizing, theorizing, summarizing, intellectualizing, even "final"izing until we began fantasizing about SLEEP. We started realizing how important it was to do some prioritizing!
It was during this time we came across Psalm 127:2 taken from The Living Bible. "God wants His loved ones to get their proper rest."
With a little effort we synchronized our schedules, reorganized our lives and legitimized our intent by simply posting the verse outside our door. It was quite surprising how publicizing it was a revolutionizing hit! The dorm hallway, without any chastising or demoralizing, was tranformationalized!
So, to generalize, we surmised that all our socialized, fraternized, sleepy-eyed friends eagerly surmised and agonized over their own legitimate need to rest!
What a shame we have socialized, characterized and sensationalized a pressurized lifestyle that victimizes rather than energizes us.
We need REST! God, help us to...

His Smile of Approval
Years ago I went through a period of time where I struggled with being able to sense God's approval. One evening Joe and I sat together discussing my dilemma of why it was so difficult for me to feel accepted and loved by God. It made no sense... I had grown up in a loving home...so that was not the cause. I had a faithful, loving husband...so that was not the issue. I had rich, stable friendships...so that was not the problem. I had enough of life's blessings to feel secure and protected...so that was not it either. No matter what, we could not unearth the mysterious misery that brewed in my spirit. Although I had been saved years ago and had tried to be obedient to His Word... I was still longing for some sense of God's approval and His Presence.
With continued, honest soul-searching, lots of prayer support from my amazing husband and some wise advice from a seasoned pastor's wife... things changed! She told me to continue to meet with God every morning and at some point, I would sense His Presence. She said that He would reveal Himself to me, again. I had to push through my feelings and be found faithful, no matter what!
After that, during an early morning devotional time, I decided it was NOT going to be about me anymore or how I felt...it was going to be all about Him! So, I just started to refocus on Him. I wanted to know Him better so I studied with a new interest. I read everything I could about God, about His Son, Jesus, about His precious Holy Spirit. I started talking to Him nearly all the time...no matter what! Soon I was able to sense His Presence gently moving in near me, again, even overwhelming me at times.
Still, to this day, it is spiritually healthier for me to keep Him my focal point. There's so much to be grateful for when I consider His many blessings in my life. I can easily respond, with not just a smile, but sincere joy knowing that His "heavenly smile of approval" is there...even if I can't sense it...because I have learned that my own sensibilities may sabotage me. That I may not always sense or feel Him there. However, no matter what or how I feel...He is there! Hebrews 13:8 confirms He remains the same "yesterday, today and forever!" So, I have...

Chatting with Jesus
This is one of the most amazing realities in my own journey of faith...how connecting with God can lift my heart and literally change my frame of mind!
Here's a quote from the Webinar I participated in with Dr. David Amen...
"The condition of our soul and the spiritual connections we make has a strong impact on the physiology of the brain. It is a reciprocal relationship...having a positive relationship with God and others actually improves brain function. A number of research studies have demonstrated that people of faith suffer less from anxiety disorders and depression and they recover 70% faster from these illnesses than those without a strong religious faith. The suicide rate and even mortality rate is lower for religious people than the non-religious. The brain needs a healthy soul, and the soul needs a brain that works right."

Recognize & Release Resentment
This is a hard Truth that often cuts deep into our human securities. Just the thought of having to release something or someone precious can be extremely painful. Loss leaves us so empty...I suppose that is why we must be filled with Him, focused on Him and not all the "good things-possessions, family, friends, health, abilities, time" all gifts that come from our Loving, Sovereign Lord.
Our devotional reading today continues, "Intellectually you rejoice in My sovereignty... but when My sovereign will encroaches on your little domain of control, you often react with telltale resentment."
As soon as I sense the rumblings of resentment in my spirit, I try to confess it quickly and ask for His peace that "guards my heart and mind" (Phil. 4:7) Staying close to Him means I must stay tuned in to any hint of displeasure in His Will for my life. Confessing it quickly keeps my heart repentant and tender before Him. Learning to recognize and release resentment quickly has been such a valuable gift. I was reminded of the following song. This clip, Blessed Be Your Name, sung by Tim Hughes, has a powerful message, impacting scriptures and the most endearing pictures of children...who tend to uniquely touch and tune my heart to God's Heart.

Growing Young!
I was on a Webinar the other day discussing brain health. A healthy brain will keep us more alive and youthful no matter what our chronological age may be. There are some twenty year olds whose thought life is so toxic and negative that their brains are deteriorating faster than their grandparents who are 3 or 4 times older!
Although my outward, physical body will certainly age, I want my "inner person to be renewed day by day." (2 Cor. 4:16) So, here are some personal checkpoints I have for myself to help me "grow young":
1. Eat brain healthy & body healthy foods (including my Reliv & protein shakes)
2. Stay kid-connected (time with the young keeps my heart happy, tender & sincere)
3. Stay "young at heart" (no matter how gray, wrinkled or forgetful I become)
4. Always be up for something new & different (keeps me out of the "rut")
5. Compliment often & be thankful (grumpy people are "old" no matter what age)
6. Daily sing & make music (keeps me in tune, on beat & in my right mind)
7. Let God speak into my life (before I dare speak into someone else's life)
8. Use encounters to improve this world (touching people & places for good)
9. Be sure to listen well using my 3rd ear (the one in the center of my heart)
10. Check for Fruit (Will this produce more Love? Joy? Peace? Patience? Kindness? Goodness? Faith? Gentleness? Self-Control? Gal.5:22-23)

Authentic vs Artificial
Don't you just love authentic people? Those who have moved past the limitations of preserving their egos, of defending their reactions, and blaming or attacking others when threatened? It all creates such a drama-driven environment! Of all places, the body of Christ should be free of such maladies. Alas, "one of the worst consequences of the Fall is the elaborate barriers people erect between themselves and others" not only in the world but even in the church!
So what sets apart the authentic from the artificial? Here are just a few attributes I value in authentic people. I am so thankful for them because they truly inspire me.
The authentic seem to honestly take responsibility for personal flaws; are quick to listen, slow to speak and when they do, they speak to or about others honorably. They express compassion for others; readily equip and empower someone else's dreams; support unity and efforts to elevate team effort over personal gain; inspire communication, acceptance, commitment, trust, vision, integrity and internal tenacity. Basically, the authentic live in God's Presence, dwelling on and exemplifying things that are "excellent or praise-worthy." (Phil.4:8) They view others as God's Image-bearers not as one's potential enemy!
Our true Enemy desires to make us into self-absorbed, drama-driven puppets on the stage of human insecurities. Our True Friend inspires us to be Christ-absorbed, purpose-driven people with an eternal mission...

Leveraging Our Focus
Right now I am in the midst of two surgical procedures on my feet. I am recovering from the first operation and will have the other foot operated on in a couple months. They are repairing an inherited weakness and misalignment that must be corrected to ensure my ability to continue to be active and healthy for years to come.
I have not been looking forward to the process of two back-to-back surgeries and the months of recovery! However, the benefits of having made the corrections will be so worth the hassle. As I focus on the benefits, I am motivated to move forward. It's all about where I place my focus!
When Jesus is the main focus, the obstacles that seem to litter life's journey can literally leverage our focus and lift our sights to a whole new awareness of Him!

Prayer Protects Our Brains
Research continues to support how worry and anxiety are neurotoxic to the brain... meaning the neuro-receptor sites can become damaged when bathed in the toxic chemicals that are produced with unhealthy, anxious thoughts. Literally, regions of the brain will shrink over time. This is especially true in the executive/decision-making areas that offer us creative, constructive ways to deal with the stresses of life.
Most of us can relate to the challenge of thinking clearly when we are overly anxious or distracted by worry. Paul gave us the best antidote in Philippians 4:6-7. "Don't worry about anything, but in everything through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be make known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Staying Power
The French term "piece de resistance" means most significant, important or outstanding. It comes from pièce, piece + de, of, with + résistance, staying power, lastingness.
If we were to list all the blessings that are included in a growing relationship with Jesus, several would most likely be considered the best or most rewarding. Of those, the most important is an eternity in heaven and then the wonderful intimate, close relationship we can enjoy every day!
Our daily life and our eternal life are significantly impacted because of Jesus! He gives us has the "staying power" that impacts our lives over and over, day after day all the way into eternity!

Pits of Pity & Plateaus of Pride
There's such a glorious freedom that comes to those who have discovered the pathway of promise where Jesus' Presence protects and empowers. I picture the pathway of His Presence much like the infamous Road to Hana and the even riskier road beyond Hana that cautiously sneaks along Maui's rugged northeasterly coast line until it enters the volcanic lava fields along the southeastern edge of the island.
It's a daring, often one-lane journey cut into jagged cliffs with ocean waves crashing below and steep, rocky ledges of volcanic rock towering overhead on the opposite side of the road.
When we made our memorable trek around the island, we were captured with its beauty and its brazen, bold, daring terrain. Both sides of the road are laden with risk, even certain death, if one becomes careless or distracted.
Pits of self-pity create dangerously victimized conditions while plateaus of pride boast of elevated grandiosity that leaves one stranded and desperately alone. One is self-depreciating the other is self-exalting, but both are the result of being overly self-focused.
The Presence of Jesus protects us from the extremes on our pathway of life. He promises that He will not lead us astray or endanger us.

Creating Ripples for His Glory
Most of us would "run from pain or hide from problems" and some refuse to see how such could ever be God's desire for us. But we all know these times come even to the best of God's people. However, when we must walk through the waters of adversity, we have the amazing option to "accept adversity in (His) Name, offering it up to (Him) for (His) purposes...drawing closer...(as a result) Joy emerges from the ashes of adversity..."
The impact of each life is much like ripples in the sea of humanity. How we respond to adversity can touch far more lives than we could ever imagine!
I praise God for the those who have touched my life with faithfulness in the midst of various trials, demonstrating their great trust in a Sovereign God! I like the following poem. May it inspire you to cast your...

Cast a stone into the calm clear water
Watch the ripples grow and grow and grow.
Then think of every moment in your lifetime
Creating ripples in the world you’ll never know.
Think of all the love that you have given
With the love that spreads as far as you can see.
For the life you have isn’t only yours for living.
Once the ripples of your love have come to me.
So think before you cast a stone in anger
For the anger that you cast will surely grow.
If you feel the fear and hatred of your brother.
You must find it in your heart to let it go.
Please drop your pebbles lightly on the water.
With love and hope to spread through out the sea.
And leave your stones of hatred on the seashore.
To turn to sand throughout eternity.

Sacred Space
Psalm 46:10 directs us to "be still and know that I am God." The Hebrew language uses the word "raphah" where we translate "be still." Throughout the Old Testament it has various meanings, but basically it means to "let it drop" or to "create slack." I find this especially meaningful as I am in the midst of recovering from foot surgery. I've had to let all kinds of things "drop." And I am far more inclined to pick up the "slack" not "create slack!" So, being "still" to repair and recover is WAY out of my norm!
The implications of spiritually being "still" are immeasurable! It truly creates a kind of "sacred space" to commune with our Creator! There's another Hebrew word that captures my attention in Psalm 46. At the end of verses 3, 7 & 11 it says "Selah."
This was a type of musical term meaning to "pause and calmly think about it." So, in the flow of this song from the Psalms, there are basically three stanzas. The people are encouraged to pause at the end of each stanza and consider the truths that were just presented.
Every Wednesday noon I meet with a group of ladies who "pause" in the flow of their week to discuss and "calmly think about" biblical truths. Our group is called "Truth and Dialog" and that is exactly what we do!
Learning to "be still" and to "selah" - or "pause and calmly think" about God's Truth can exponentially change a life...it has mine! It creates that "sacred space" in my schedule to commune with my Creator...to "be still and KNOW" God!

Your Father's Eyes
Respond to My loving Presence by worshiping Me in spirit and in truth."
John 4:23 (299)
Have you ever noticed how hard it is to be yourself or to experience genuine worship if you're more focused on other people? I've discovered, during a worship service, it is best for me to sit in a place where I am less distracted by my surroundings. So, if I can, I usually sit closer to the front.
That is spiritually true for me too...the more focused I am on the opinions and ways of others...the more distracted and miserable I become! This world offers thousands of distractions that lure us away from our main focus...Jesus!
To worship in Spirit and in Truth basically means I am setting my gaze on Jesus and embracing His Truth as my standard for living. God's Truth is "untainted by sin" and far more reliable than the passing opinions and flawed musings of those who do not really love me, or do not have my best interest in mind.
But what a difference, when we are in the glaze of one who really loves us and sees the best; believes the best and encourages the best in us! I am grateful for an earthly father and a Heavenly Father who have done that for me. Thanks, Dad!

Presently & Eternally Loved
What a promise!! What a comfort!! What a gift!! Always, forever...in His Presence!
Since God is love, and His Presence is all about His love, that means I am presently and eternally enveloped in Love!
"For I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, nor angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow - not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below - indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord!" Romans 8:38-39
The key for me, is being "convinced" - being persuaded beyond doubt with absolute certainty - of God's Presence and His Love. This is the sure foundation that makes all the difference!

Relaxing Not Rehearsing
There's a healthy balance between looking ahead to be adequately prepared and obsessively seeking to control and manipulate the future. Matthew 6:33-34 tells us to "seek first the kingdom of God" and not to "worry about tomorrow." Philippians 4:6-7, 20 helps us understand that when we turn our worries into prayers of thanksgiving we will experience "the peace of God (which) will guard (our) hearts and minds in Christ Jesus" because we can be confident in a God who "will supply all (our) needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus."

Vent-Ability
I cannot even begin to recall the numerous times God has altered my responses because I was able to unload, or vent, with Him first!
As a counselor, I hear from many who are wrestling through very difficult and perplexing issues. More often than not, just having that safe place to vent can be a powerful gift, that unwraps our ability to put things back into a definitive, even divine perspective. But when we don't have that cathartic, counseling opportunity, we can still access a Sovereign Savior who "so reigns" over every challenge we face. He can alter our perspective, strengthen our commitment and honor our resolve to glory Him, no matter what!
I can validate the benefits of venting with the Sovereign Savior. Prayer has become that profitable "reality check." As I'm pouring out my heart, I am...

Improving My God-Concept
Today's devo reminded me of a Truth about God found in two places in the bible, 2 Samuel 22:26-27 and Psalm 18:25-26. "To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless, to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd."
Basically, how we view God often has a lot to do with who we are! Our perspective on God can be strengthened or distorted depending upon the way we view ourselves! What a tragedy to have limited or even twisted our God-concept based upon our own flawed perspectives.
The good news is that when our view of God is "crooked" or distorted in some way, God will "show Himself shrewd" or "will wrestle with" us trying to get our attention and to redirect and correct our faulty assumptions about Him.
I am so glad that God is Good and far greater than my human mind can conceive!

Refocused & Reframed
Over the years we have been in various situations that have stretched us to "walk by faith" and I've discovered that....living by faith is a challenge for me. My HEAD knows God can be trusted. My HEART knows God loves me. But, somewhere inside, I can still become anxious and uneasy even fearful in some situations.
So, what do I do? I have to refocus on Him and reframe my own situation.
To refocus, I have to intentionally draw my thought life back on Him and to acknowledge His Presence in every situation and moment of my life.
To reframe I have to recognize the "frame" or belief I have built around the life situation that limits my point of view and hinders my ability to see God at work and involved in the big picture of my life. When I reframe, in light of biblical Truths, new concepts, rewarding interpretations and possibilities change and enhance my point of view to include a loving, caring, attentive God that really knows how "all things can work together" for my good! (Romans 8:28)
As I refocus on Him and reframe my point of view, I am better equipped to deal with situations that can challenge or even frighten me.

His Joy & My Strength
This devo brought to mind Nehemiah 8:10, "...the joy of the Lord is your strength." It's obvious that this world is filled with may things that sap our strength and steal away our joy. However, as God's people our strength comes from "the joy of the Lord." I find this a very interesting Truth! My strength is directly connected to His Joy! So...it is my desire to discover what brings Him joy receiving the benefit of added strength! His joy strengthens me!
Zephaniah 3:17 says, " The LORD, your God, is in the midst of you, a mighty one who will save. He will rejoice over you with joy. He will rest in his love. He will rejoice over you with singing."
So, I will be listening, "is God singing, yet?"
I will be asking, "is He rejoicing over me with joy, today?"
Making each day an opportunity to bring Him joy, and a reason to rejoice... changes the way I spend my day. It changes the why, when and how of my day! Most of all it changes the "who" in my day! It's not all about me...my problems or my promotions. It's all about HIM! Seeing life from His vantage point. It gives reason and rhyme to my life.

The Waiting Room
"Trust Me...Thank Me!" These spiritual directives can come quite readily, at times, however, I've known times when it required a very intentional effort. Trusting is one thing. Thanking is a whole other discipline. Both are far more difficult when I am in the "Waiting Room" of life. Waiting for an answer, a call, a confirmation, a miracle...waiting and waiting.
We've spend long hours in hospital "Waiting Rooms" and they're generally not "faith-friendly" places to be. The "Waiting Rooms" of life do not have long lines of people desiring to enter, but there are many who are there by default or.... maybe by design!?
Which ever it is...I'm glad Isaiah 40:31 gives us the hope that those who "wait on the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint."
So, while I wait I will prepare my eagle wings to soar and my feet to run...
Someday...dmc

Jesus, Lifelong Lover
Calling on Jesus' Name has been such an important part of my life. Some moments that stand out in my mind: Suddenly screaming out "JESUS" while riding in a college friend's car, as we barely escaped a head-on collision. In our early years of marriage, living on pennies every month. Whispering "Jesus" over a sick, feverish baby. Waiting for paramedics to arrive when my newborn had stopped breathing. Taking both sons to the ER at the same time (they'd collided dirt bikes while racing...groan!) Concerned over an unaccounted for teen who was hours late getting home. Sitting at the hospital with a dying friend. Listening to my husband preach a challenging message in obedience to the Lord, knowing it would not "tickle" some ears in the congregation. Counseling a friend through a most painful, heart-wrenching situation. Taking a phone call with bad news. Being just too emotionally exhausted and physically tired.
Then, there are times of such rejoicing, where speaking His Name gives credit to the joy or wonder of that moment: Gazing at a starry clear sky. Watching ocean waves curl and roll to shore. Holding one of our newborn grand babies. Laughing over simple silly situations. Listening to our son preach a soul-stirring message. Listening to our other son readily pray from his heart, no matter where, when or who is there. Being wrapped up in a worship experience. Sensing His Presence as I fall asleep and again as I wake up. Having a strained relationship mended. Being remembered and loved in lonely times. Hearing my husband's voice, feeling His gentle touch. Knowing how deeply I am loved.
Jesus' Name is more than the start or close of a mealtime prayer. It is the "lifelong love story" with the Lover of my soul! Recently, as my precious Mother-in-law passed away, we sang the songs of Jesus as she quietly slipped into His Presence.
Ah, yes...There really IS something about that Name...dmc

Rest or Rush
Sometimes we will wrestle with ourselves when it comes to resting. Somehow we've been conditioned to think that busyness is equated with productivity. We all know, that is not true. I've experienced some very hectic days with very little being accomplished.
Rushing around can leave me frazzled and frustrated.
However, it's been during my more restful days that I've been inspired to love, worship and serve God with new passion. Remembering that a "sabbath rest" was one of God's good ideas! (Smile)
Looking for that healthy balance between doing for Him and...
Being with Him...dmc
