Learn to Discern

"Learn to discern what is My voice and what is not. Ask My Spirit to give you this discernment... My sheep know My voice and follow Me wherever I lead." John 10:4 (66)
What struck me in this devotional was the importance of discerning who's voice we are listening to...others, God's, my own doubts, expectations or some other compelling source. Wherever is comes from, if it is not God's voice, it will fragment and frustrate my life.
However, learning to selectively tune into God's voice may mean others will not understand or appreciate the unique journey God has called me to. What a comfort to know that God has set each of us apart for a carefully crafted journey He desires for us.  Gratefully, He will be our constant companion all along the way.
Years ago we watched a shepherd call his sheep and it was absolutely true... they KNEW his voice! Without hesitation, the sheep responded and readily obeyed their shepherd. All the little lambs were safely huddled in amongst the moving flock. What a lesson...as we follow Him, our "lambs" will safely make the journey, too. I want to carefully...

  1. "Ask My Spirit to give you this discernment..."

I asked God the other day for a grateful heart and I haven't been the same since!

You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. John 14:14

  2. Dawn, Have you read Phillip Keller's "Lessons from a Sheep Dog"? When I read it years ago, it greatly impacted my life. Keller's best known book is probably "A shepherd looks at Psalm 23". Both books are very insightful AND they are in the church library!

  3. How do I know whose voice I'm listening to? How to know for sure? How do I selectively tune in? I know that sometimes I 'just know', but not always.

  4. I love coming here first thing in the AM, to seek God, to hear him... my prayer is that I would always hear and be in cadence with God's heart and will! "FOLLOW THE SHEPHERD AND LEAD THE LAMBS" 🙌
